We love sharing what we do, so since 2016 we have been running NESA-endorsed Professional Development Training workshops for teachers, so that they can discover new ways of promoting critical and creative thinking to make a difference for their students.
And teachers love them. In feedback surveys participating teachers tell us that what they're learning has direct application for their classroom, and they mark it 10 out of 10.
But more than that, they love implementing what they've learned, to reengage their students in fresh and exciting new ways.
We asked Woolcott Research & Engagement to conduct an independent evaluation of our training, and to follow up with the teachers who took part in our first year of professional development workshops.
Woolcott found that six months after completing our training:
•All respondents indicated that they had been able to implement learnings from the workshop (100%).
•More than 9 in 10 also agreed that:
oThey were more confident in their teaching abilities (96%);
oThey had made changes in the way they teach creative writing (96%);
•82% also agreed that they had noticed improvements in the creative writing of students.
These are great results, that we're really thrilled to shout about!
In our first full year of our teacher professional development program 447 teachers were equipped to take the best of our creative writing practice back to their classroom. If every one of those teachers has implemented what they learned with just one class of 25 students, that's 11,175 young people we have helped to unleash their creativity. Amazing!
Together, we really are making a world of difference for the next generation.
We run our NESA-endorsed professional development workshops during school holidays, and visit schools on professional learning days to train large groups. Four workshops are available, suitable for primary and high school applications.
