PHOTO FACTION: STORIES IN WORDS AND IMAGES
In 2017 we partnered with the wonderful Australian Centre for Photography and worked with students to create stories in both written and visual forms.
This project built on our very successful project 'See My Story', expanding from working with students in one high school, to six!
As part of the Photo Faction process, students from different schools across Western Sydney collaborated and explored relationships between images and words, learning about visual and narrative methods of storytelling, as well as technical aspects of photography.
In both the visual and written elements of the project, students were encouraged to engage with the idea that images, and the stories told through images, can be interpreted in various ways.
The resulting work was published online on the University of Sydney's A*STAR website as a colourful and constantly evolving celebration of storytelling. Check it out - it's great!
These uniquely Western Sydney stories will also come to life in a large format audio-visual exhibition at Parramarsala Festival 2018.
We are thrilled to be returning to this project in 2018, and partnering with 6 new schools in terms 2 & 3.
This program is one of four Foundation Programs that are laying the groundwork for Sydney Story Factory's expansion across Western Sydney, and the opening of Sydney Story Factory Parramatta. It program is generously supported by the University of Sydney (Widening Participation and Outreach).
