Meet Sam

Samuel is one of our awesome and growing cadre of young volunteers who fits in tutoring around school work and exams (and for Samuel, other volunteering experiences, like building libraries in Vietnam!!!). The past two terms he's been working tirelessly with the always rowdy and rambunctious Settlement workshops, working with younger students with many more literacy challenges than Samuel has ever had to think about. He's been doing a spectacular job too, working at a level well beyond his years.

This most recent term he was able to shine as the only Mandarin-speaking volunteer in the room. A new student, brand new to Australia with only seven words of English (one was of course pizza), he was terrified and constantly in tears - until Samuel started working with him in Mandarin, and changed everything! Samuel, you're a true inspiration not only for your students but for our whole team as well - keep up the great work!
