With the Sydney Story Factory expanding into Western Sydney, we're constantly on the look out for passionate, inspiring teachers like Joyce Conte.
A drama teacher of more than 20 years at Sir Joseph Banks High, Joyce is always going the extra mile for her students, ensuring they have every opportunity available to them.
Joyce spends much of her own time meeting with and supporting community organisations like BYDS and projects like the Bankstown Poetry Slam and 4ELEMENTS HipHop. Joyce promotes her students' expression through the arts, getting them involved in theatre performances, poetry slams, emerging artist programs and other community projects.
If an artist is running an event she'll be there, supporting the work but, more importantly, tirelessly seeking out new ways for her students to benefit and get involved. Last year she organised a student-run festival of cultures with a packed audience, beaming families and, most importantly, proud students. She also organised extra curricular workshops with Stefo Nantsou, and involved students in BYDS' The Way.
This month, our big shout-out of appreciation goes to Joyce Conte. A true legend who has influenced many lives positively - congratulations!
