Meet Bianca

December 2016

Bianca has just finished off her third term with us. She came here in Term 2 as part our one-on-one support needs program, where she had great battles with anxiety and self doubt symptomatic of her ASD. She has since made friends in the workshops, has proven to be a spectacular writer across poetry and prose genres, and recently performed in front of a full room at the Bankstown Poetry Slam - an incredible feat for any adult, let alone a 12-year-old who used to keep her eyes hidden behind a fringe!

We're immensely proud of the work she's produced, and we're looking forward to seeing her again next year in our year-long Novella program.

Here is the text from her picture book in Term 4:

We all have a different face, some are unnoticed by all, some think they are higher than others. We all have a different face.

There are the ones who find themselves in a murky place, feeling sorrow with a never-ending heartache...

There are the ones who are favoured by all, they're always centre of attention...

There are the ones who decay in the past, they are lost and forgotten like unnecessary memories...

There are the ignored who are just the background; people look right through them. They are our windows in our world...

There are the ones who imagine themselves higher than others; they believe they are superior compared to everyone else. They think that they own the world...

There are the crude ones who are ill mannered and are always vulgar...

But in the end we are all in the same boat, travelling the same journey across the same sea…
