Meet Alex

NOVEMBER 2016

Alex is truly passionate about teaching and is an inspiration not only for students but for other teachers as well!

Alex Riske is an English as an Additional Language (EAL) teacher at Orara High School, Coffs Harbour. He’s a humble, hardworking individual who passionately goes above and beyond to support students. Among many other things, Alex has put countless hours into producing two incredible projects in 2012 and 2015 that have allowed refugee students’ artistic potential to shine. Both projects, “Before today and forever” and “Original Spirit – Inner Worlds” brought to light inspiring artwork and powerful personal stories of refugee students from the Coffs Harbour area.

"What is enjoyable about teaching is seeing students magically using the creative act (whether that be writing, art, music or another medium) to touch the deepest parts of the human soul. Education should be the opportunity of every individual to inadvertently express something that they didn't think possible." - Alex Riske
