Year of the Novella

The Year of the Novella program is a year-long writing program run especially for a select group of dedicated and committed teenage writers. The goal is to produce not just a fistful of poems, or a story, or a script, but a fully realised novella!

After the huge success of the Year of the Novella program in 2016 and 2017, we're once again working with a keen group of young novella-ists in 2018. We'll begin by setting up residence at the Bankstown Youth Arts Centre every Sunday in Term 1, then will move to our brand new centre in Parramatta from Term 2 onwards.

In one year a dedicated group of teen writers will be challenged to write, edit and publish a 20-30,000 word novella in just 12 short months. Not an insignificant achievement!

They'll be supported by volunteers working alongside them and helping develop their writing from concept to page and complete their most substantial piece of original fiction ever, right through to professional publication.

Storytellers Richard and Bilal, and our story-writing community as a whole, have been hugely impressed with the work generated in this intensive program in the last two years, and we just know this year's novella-ists will be just as brilliant.

You can check out the final published novellas launched at our new (as yet unfurnished) Parramatta centre in December 2017 here, and you can read all about our Year of the Novella journey - and the wonderful novellas launched in December 2016 - here
