In 2016 we ran Let's Write Redfern in collaboration with five Redfern/Waterloo community organisations offering local young people a chance to unleash their creativity and let their imaginations soar.
In five term-long writing programs, run for an hour each week during school hours or after-school, our young writers explored their creativity, writing short stories on subjects meaningful to them. Some of our students amazing work included stories about the ghosts who live in the derelict hospital up the road and picture books depicting the adventures of an echidna on the loose in Redfern.
At the end of every workshop series our writers saw their writing honoured and celebrated in publication. With each student taking home a copy of the anthology, zine or picture book containing their stories, with their names on the cover loud and proud as published authors.
For our 'Let's Write, Redfern!' program we partnered with our friends at:
* National Centre of Indigenous Excellence
* Redfern Jarjum College
* Yurungai Barnardos Learning Centre
